The crew at RayGun FX have taken a little piece of our childhood and turned it into a rad fuzz pedal, because, let’s face it, it was never the best handheld video game system created, but it sure was fun. Now, the Game Boy we grew up with has become something more powerful than we ever thought imaginable…and it sounds pretty rad, too.
The main draw here is the aesthetics, for sure, but there’s also a powerful fuzz pedal trapped inside these hollowed-out game system shells. The controls are simple, as you can see: one for Volume and one for Fuzz. That’s it, all she wrote, over and done. From a slightly overdriven tone with the Fuzz knob rolled back, the Super Fuzz Boy increases in chunk and grit and you increase this knob, to where a wall of deep, rich (but not overpowering) fuzz appears when maxed out, with loads of gooey tones nestled in the cracks and crevices in between.
Now, these things take a long time to build, according to RayGun FX‘s website – about two months, apparently, and they go quick when they’re in stock, so if you come across one, we suggest snapping it up FAST! A great conversation piece, a cool look for your pedalboard and a great fuzz effect all rolled into one, the Super Fuzz Boy is trip down memory lane for a lot of us, and just a badass-looking and sounding pedal for all you youngsters out there. If you like fuzz, and you like Nintendo, then the Super Fuzz Boy is definitely the pedal for you!
