Let’s face it: sometimes mini pedals can leave something to be desired. Trying to cram a bunch of sounds into a super-tiny enclosure has proven to be a somewhat difficult task, but apparently not for the folks over at Malekko Heavy Industry. Their Vibrato pedal, part of the Omicron Series, packs a wallop of tone and flexibility into a itty-bitty pedal, perfect for saving space but not sacrificing any sound in your rig.
Built with the infamous MN3007 BBD IC chip, which is often-copied and hard-to-find, the Vibrato produces some super-lush, warm, analog, true-pitch (no dry) vibrato tones, but can do much more along the way. The Speed and Depth controls have a bigger range than many of these types of pedals we’ve seen, and will do everything from a slight shimmering sound to crazy, ring-mod, pitch-bending insanity, something we were definitely NOT expecting when we unwrapped this little yellow beauty.
Another semi-oddity here is that while you can run it just fine at the usual 9V, you are actually encouraged to run this guy at 18V! More headroom and richer, fuller sounds prevail when the voltage is increased, yet another aspect that really makes the Vibrato stand out among most pedals in similar categories.
Measuring just 3.6″x 1.5″x 1.2″ and weighing a measly .39lbs, there’s no excuse for not being able to fit this gem onto ANY pedalboard, regardless of size or other pedals that happen to be on board. Truly an eye-opener, we really dig the tones and sounds it’s capable of, and are still puzzled as to how they did it. Thanks to Anna and all at Malekko Heavy Industry for sending the Vibrato over for us to peruse – check out the demo video below, and check back here soon for our review of their new Sneak Attack pedal as well!
