Germany seems to be pumping out some awesome pedals lately, and today’s is another in that spectacular lineup. The White Fuzz from °red sun fx is based on the Silicon Fuzz Face, and produces those warm and fuzzy (pun intended) classic fuzz sounds. Boasting a simple setup but producing huge sound, this fuzz, like most of ’em, was an absolute blast to sit down with and explore.
Nothing ground-breaking in the control department, but you don’t really need more than is there. Volume adjusts the overall output, Tone blends the low and high frequencies and Attack controls the amount of fuzz you want coming from the effect. The Tone and Attack controls work uniquely together as well, with the Tone actually affecting the level of gain produced when turned clockwise, for MORE gain and bigger low end. Another unusual feature on the White Fuzz is the fact that is actually does clean up, unlike most fuzz pedals, and will work as a wonderful clean boost with the Attack knob rolled back.
The knobs are solid on this thing, too, so you can set it and not have to worry about any of the controls moving on you on stage. The White Fuzz has a ton of headroom, and produces smooth tones with excellent response to both your playing and your instrument’s Volume knob. Made in small batches or just one-offs, all the pedals coming from °red sun fx are built with a high-quality standard, and feature the best available internal parts as well. Thanks so much to Nicolas for sending this fuzz on a long journey across the Atlantic – we hope to review more of his pedals in the future, and don’t forget to go check out his website and see what he can build for you!
