What can you say about a boost pedal? If it’s made correctly, it boosts your instrument’s signal, driving your amp and letting everyone in the crowd know you f’n rock. The good folks at Way Huge Electronics / Jim Dunlop have created a boost pedal that not only pummels your amp, but adds in a special little lite and punch to your tone as well.
The Angry Troll is a boost capable of pumping up to +50dB of gain into your signal – WHAT? That’s a TON on tap, and if you really need that much, maybe you should take a look at your setup. However, this red bastard doesn’t just boost – a second control knob, Anger, is a rotary switch with six different Fists of Fury positions, which adjust the amount of gain created by the pedal’s op-amp. Interacting with the Volume control, you get a vintage mic pre amp type of sound, with a little dirt foe extra good measure.
As with all Way Huge Pedals, the Angry Troll is built like a tank, and you’d really have to try hard to damage this thing, so just using your feet should be fine, making it last for years to come. We liked that the version we got to review was missing a knob, too, makes it look kinda badd-ass, right? You can tell she’s been through the ringer already, and still has a ton of life left.
