We were recently privileged to test out and review an awesome fuzz pedal from a relative newcomer (at least to us) in the pedal world, Spruce Effects. The Lichen Fuzz was a great fuzz pedal, and we were impressed by its quality build and sound as well, so we were super-stoked to check out another one of their creations – the Growth Ring Boost. Right off the bat, the mismatched knob selection drew us in, as we dig some wackiness in our pedals, and that was an immediate sign that we were going to dig this pedal. Guess what? We were right.
Like most boost pedals, there’s nothing too difficult to figure out with the Growth Ring. The Ring knob controls the amount of boost/volume, while the Girth knob controls the frequency response – more bass to the left, more treble to the right. Simple Input and Output jacks line the sides, and that about sums it up. Featuring almost 20dB of boost on tap, you’re not going to need to mess around at all to get a great breakup sound for your tube amp, or to cut through any house mix like a warm knife through cold butter.
True bypass, made with high-quality components and sounding as good as any boost we’ve heard, the Growth Ring Boost is a pleasure to add into any guitar setup. Its full spectrum boost capabilities will not only thicken up your sound, but add depth and tone to it as well. Thanks again so much to Brian and everyone at Spruce Effects for letting us check out yet another one of their finely-crafted and great-sounding effects – stay tuned to Pedal of the Day for more demos of their gear in the near future!
