Ninevolt Pedals I Was A Wolf In The Forest DistortionWe’re taking next week off to get settled into our new office space, so we have a rare Saturday review for you to tide you over for a bit. Today’s featured pedal comes to us from Ninevolt Pedals, a company from Japan who we are featuring throughout the next few months, and will be reviewing their entire lineup of pedals. This little black beauty is the I Was A Wolf In The Forest Distortion, and while the pedal is great in and of itself, it might just be the name that takes the cake here. Another relatively simple but powerful pedal, this is a smooth distortion/overdrive that won’t kill your sound or sacrifice any of your tone.

Designed after that classic British amp overdriven sound, the I Was A Wolf In The Forest Distortion will go from a creamy, warm overdrive all the way up to those vintage distorted tones heard on so many brilliant records from decades past. Use the Vol control to adjust the overall volume, the Drive control to adjust the strength of the distortion, and the TONE control to control the brightness of the sound in the center of the high-frequency range.

The art is once again done by Surf Art Master Painter Jonas Cleasson from Australia, and here’s his insight into the design: “When the dog and mountain climber went hiking, the dog howled, like the sounds made by the wolf, who’s ancestral blood still runs through the dog. Back home the dog turned back to being a regular dog. I dropped the concept into the design while imagining that scene”. Pretty trippy, and pretty awesome, too.

The dynamic response makes it possible to use your guitar’s volume knob to adjust the strength of the distortion, just like a real tube guitar amp, with a tone that rivals a tube amp. Again, an easy-to-use but wonderful-sounding pedal, with an excellent price for all guitarists to appreciate, the I Was A Wolf In The Forest Distortion
