Spruce Effects Lichen Fuzz As stated before in many, many reviews, we love fuzz pedals here at Pedal of the Day. While we’ve checked out a LOT of them over the years, there’s still something special about plugging into a new one for the first time, hitting that bypass switch and immediately going “Whoa”, ala Neo in The Matrix. Today’s tasty little fuzz morsel, the Lichen Fuzz, did exactly that when we turned her on, and continued to impress as we took her through the paces and rigors of our testing process. We’re excited to say that we are no longer newbies to the genius that is Spruce Effects, and happy that after this review, you won’t be either.

Coming to us from a talented husband and wife team located in the San Francisco Bay Area, the Lichen Fuzz is simple but powerful, and features a wide array of tones to be feasted upon. The Ring control knob adjusts the overall output volume, of which there is plenty, while the Bark control lets you dial in the perfect amount of fuzz, from a slight growl to a full-on wall of awesome. This pedal is Spruce Effects’ take on the classic fuzz sounds of the 60’s, and has been tuned to be extremely dynamic and touch-sensitive, making it a step up from many of those “classic” fuzzes that had consistency and reliability issues in the past.

The Lichen Fuzz also reacts well with your guitar’s volume knob, for easy adjustments to your sound in a moment’s notice. Rich and harmonically sustaining fuzz sounds absolutely pour out of this little green monster, as you’ll hear in the demo video below, and really make you do a double take as soon as you hear it. Although simple in setup and layout, whatever they did on the inside is something special, and in a world of hundreds of fuzz pedals, that’s a rare and exceptional feat to accomplish. Thanks so much to Spruce Effects for letting us check out this rad fuzz – be sure to go visit their website to see what else they have in store for you, and check back here shortly for more reviews of their rad gear!
