Being a pedal review blog, we love discovering new pedals and companies that we hadn’t previously heard of, and developing new relationships with them, which is the case with today’s pedal, the Sagittarius Overdrive Boost from Celestial Effects in Hudson, MA. 2-in-1 pedals are always welcome around here, and you really can’t beat the Overdrive/Boost combination.
There’s a Volume knob to start us off, which controls the output of the overdrive, and there’s plenty to go around. A 2-knob EQ section follows, which lets you dial in exactly how much Low or High end you need, without having to sacrifice one or the other, always a big plus in our book. The Drive control has a monstrous range of sounds, from a subtle and slight boost to a warm and inviting tube amp-like sound to a heavy, dirty, grinding drive, all the while staying transparent, crisp and present at the same time. This Overdrive section is great for really kicking your amp into high gear if needed for a solo, but can also be a great tone shaping tool, one you can dial in and leave on once you get it to play nice with your amp!
The Boost section is implemented via a second footswitch, and is just Celestial Effects’ Scorpio Boost, making the Sagittarius an extremely useful and space-saving 2-In-1 pedal. This is no ordinary boost, however, as it was created through sheer accident, and adds hints of fuzz and overdrive when cranked. When paired with the Overdrive side of this purple beast, the distorted possibilities are endless, and so much fun to experiment with. You can also change the order in which the 2 sides go in the signal chain by pressing in or out a small latching button located on the bottom of the pedal, for even more specific tonal quality.
Overall, the Sagittarius Overdrive Boost is a fun pedal with a ton of options and killer tones to keep your interest up and make your playing better. Boost, Overdrive, Fuzz and Distortion are all covered on some level here, making it a unique mutli-effect, but one that you can find great settings with easily and efficiently. Thanks so much to Joe, Domenic and everyone at Celestial Effects for giving us the chance to test this baby out – we will have a lot more reviews of gear from these guys in the coming months, so stay tuned, and don’t forget to check out their website while you wait!
