The folks at Free The Tone have really been putting out some incredible gear in the last few years, and today’s featured pedal is yet another in their impressive lineup. Wanting to create an overdrive that could fit onto any board comfortably, they set out to build a pedal using the finest ingredients and latest technology, and ultimately came up with the Gigs Boson Overdrive.
Taking its name from a recently discovered Higgs Boson particle, the Gigs Boson has an easy-to-use control layout, with a couple extras to really boost up the sound and options of this pedal. Level (output volume), Tone (high/low frequency adjustment) and Gain (amount of drive added into your signal) are the three main overdrive staple knobs present here, with each one adding its own special flavor to the the output sound, and all working together to create a wonderful sonic palette.
Two small push-button switches help to accentuate the Gigs Boson’s overall tone. The first is the Input Z, an input impedance switch (1MΩ/100kΩ) that works whether the pedal is engaged or not, letting the user have a bit more control over their overall tone and presence. The second switch is a Gain Boost, which beefs up the Gigs’ overall sound to really get your solos ripping and the crowd jumping. This overdrive also features a newly developed and very special HTS (Holistic Tonal Solution) input circuit, which prevents guitar signal degradation even when bypassed, making it even more essential to keeping your tone in tact.
This pedal really accentuates the nuances of your picking or fingerstyle playing with ease, and can also rip some sic overdrive tones if you crank it up, too. The thing is, the folks over at Free The Tone don’t really make any bad gear, as least none that we’ve come across yet.
