T-Rex Effects Tap Tone Delay

Everyone has to have tap tempo on their delays these days, it seems, but sometimes you want a small, simple stompbox that can provide you with that specific option, but not overwhelm you with others. Boasting awesome analog tones, plus a few other tricks up its sleeve, the Tap Tone Delay from T-Rex Effects will give you all the delay and tap tempo you need, and have a good time doing it, too.

The control panel on the Tap Tone isn’t too difficult to figure out, but fun to play around with nonetheless. Delay is your basic mix knob, blending your clean signal with the delayed one, for total control of how powerful or subtle this effect is on your sound. Feedback adjusts the amount of the delayed repeats, while Time sets the tempo of those repeats, easily able to achieve everything from slap back to spacey and echo-filled. The Bite knob might be the most useful on this pedal, as it lets you dial in some analog grit the more you turn it up, sort of like a tone control on steroids.

Starting things off with the all the knobs set around 9:00, the Tap Tone gives of a great pseudo-reverb sound, one that really thickens up your tone in an instant, and is one of those effects that you want to leave on all the time. Ease the Time and Feedback knobs up a bit for some killer lead sounds that fatten your tone further, or get right into nice and twangy slap back territory. As each knob’s levels are increased, the sound just grows and grows, and that Bite knob really sends this pedal into vintage analog delay territory.

If you crank all four controls up to a little less than max, you can start to really be creative, and paint a tasty and meaty wall of delayed sounds that will leave your band and the audience speechless. Easy to use but creativity-inspiring, the Tap Tone is a great little delay for adding some necessary thickness to any guitarists’ arsenal. Plus, it features that legendary T-Rex Effects sound, which has been dazzling players and audiences for two decades.
