Like My Pedals Icy Blue Dual Drive

As far as unique pedals are concerned, a small company called Like My Pedals has been coming up with some great gear as of late, mixing colorful enclosure/control knob combinations with tasty circuits and rad tones. Their no-name, no-graphics approach to pedal building is unique as well, but in a mysterious way makes them that much more recognizable, somehow. Today’s pedal from LMP was one I had to name myself, and I honored it with the moniker of Icy Blue Dual Drive (not the most original, by any means, but what can I tell you?).

The Left Side of this dual overdrive is a clone of the Brown Sound In A Box II, which effectively emulates a Marshall JTM45, the first amp that company made back in 1962. This really is an amp in a box, folks, with controls including Volume, Gain, Tone and Presence, and features plenty of tube-like overdriven tone on tap.

The Right side is Like My Pedals’ take on the classic Prince of Tone overdrive from Analog Man, and features the same Volume, Gain and Tone controls found on that little purple pedal, but with a few added bonuses. An external Presence control allows for more exact tweaking of the tone, while clipping (adjusts the overall lows and mids) and shunting (higher gain and depper compression when on) toggle switches feature a few modes you can shift the overdrive into with the flick of a switch, perfect for getting the precise tonal qualities to come shimmying out of your amplifier with ease.

A center toggle switch adds in another feature, effect order, so YOU decide which half of the pedal comes first or second in the signal chain, with both options yielding different results. These 2 sides are extremely useful on their own, but click them on together and watch your sound open up. While both are first engaged, you may have to spend a minute adjusting for Volume and Tone, but the Gain you’ll have on tap is stunning, and you won’t even be tempted to turn around and ever look back.

Like My Pedals continues to crank out gear based on some familiar circuits, but with twists and turns that will keep you on your toes, and keep your tone reaching for the stars. Check ’em out if you get a chance, and order something custom that you’ve always wanted – trust me, you won’t be disappointed!
