We here at Pedal of the Day had been hearing about this incredible overdrive pedal from Australia that was all that rage, and had apparently been sold out and hard to find. Luckily, the maker of this pedal, Teletronix, decided they were going to answer the high demand for this pedal, and release a new batch, featuring two new graphic designs. We were able to get a hold of one of these pedals and put it through the ringer, and boy, the hype was worth it. Ladies and gentlemen, the Mulholland Drive™.
The goal of this drive is to act as a brilliant boost or low-gain overdrive, all while preserving the tone of your guitar and amp. Teletronix has based this design off of both the preamp sections of vintage amps AND some of the tastiest overdrive pedals ever to be unleashed on the world, all while adding their own special specs and twists to form a truly inspired piece of musical gear. While the internal arrangement of this version differs slightly from the original, the tones and quality of the Mulholland Drive™ remain securely in tact.
A small controls section (Gain, Treble and Output) make getting a good sound easily achieved within a minute. Once you get a good base, you can go back and really tweak the knobs to your liking, depending on what you’re using the pedal for, what type of music you play and what the rest of your rig is made up of. The tone of your guitar is just enhanced, I guess, is the best way to put it. Clear, sharp notes and chords come shining through, and with this pedal acting as both a wonderfully rich clean boost AND a great amp-pushing overdrive, you’ve got access to a ton of different sounds to add to your arsenal.
At its core, the Mulholland Drive™ (Script) is a simple but powerful tone enhancer, a wonderful clean boost and a slightly gritty and complex overdrive all wrapped into one. Seeing as these overdrive pedals are the first offerings from Teletronix, we (and many other players across the world) are extremely excited to see what they come up with next.
