There have been lots of really nice reverb pedals coming out recently, and one of the most notable I’ve seen has been the Wet Reverb from Neunaber Audio Effects. This pedal is popping up all over the place, on boards around the world, and from what I’ve heard of it, there’s a good reason why. Well, Neunaber decided to crank it up a notch and add a little extra sauce onto the Wet Reverb and call it the Seraphim Shimmer.

The Seraphim is missing the Tone knob from the original Wet Reverb, but once you try this thing out, it’s easy to forget. The Tone has been replaced with the Shim(mer) knob, which adds a whole new dimension to this colorful little pedal. The Mix knob blends the wet and dry signals, and can go from 0-100% wet if need be, which is always a fun option. The Depth control has a big, booming range for the straight reverb sound as well, from a slight hint of echo to a full-on stalagmite-filled cavern of ambient wonder. Using just those 2 knobs as controls for the reverb, you can dial in a ton of different reverberated sounds, with ease, I might add.

Which brings us to the Shimmer portion of the pedal. Essentially two pedals in one, the Seraphim had a hidden secret locked inside the bypass footswitch. To get to the Shimmer mode, just hold down the switch with your foot for a few seconds, and when you release it, you’ll have entered an entirely new sonic dimension. The Shimmer effects add a powerful but beautiful vocal choir-type realm to the notes you play, and adjusting the Shim knob adds in more or less of this effect. From a subtle breath of shimmer to an all-out 20-person choir, this hidden gem will transform your sound into an ocean of vocal harmony, with the reverb still playing a big part in it all, for a sound you’re not likely to find anywhere else in a pedal of this size and ease-of-use.

Once you get it down, the transition of moving back and forth between regular reverb and the added shimmer becomes seamless, allowing for easy pulsing in of quick shimmery notes and phrases, spackled throughout your set, or on any studio recording. The Seraphim also boasts an analog dry signal, keeping your original tone intact, regardless of how much you drench it in gloriously angelic reverb. Plus, you can easily set the bypass mode for trails or no trails, simply by holding down the footswitch as you power the pedal up. It also comes in a Stereo version, too, if you’re into that whole multiple-amp-setup thing!
