The Sally Drive Classic DC from 6 Degrees FX looks like a race car on your pedalboard. Immediately jumping out at you visually, this thing is stunning to stare at, and then once you turn it on, you’re in for a real treat. The Sally Drive is a take on a classic, the 808 Tube Screamer, but with some beefy tonal properties and modern upgrades to make it a really special pedal.
6 Degrees took the general layout of the 808 and improved upon it, but it holds the same characteristics as that sought-after overdrive, with one major addition (more on that in a bit). Level, Tone and Gain are the controls you have to work with here, like a regular Tube Screamer, but with seemingly more range and vibrance. Plenty of volume makes it easy to set this in conjunction with the rest of your rig, no worries there. Plus, the Sally won’t color your tone, either, really laying back in the mix with an overlay of transparency that is just perfect. The Tone has a great range as well, never getting muddy when you turn down the highs, and never getting piercing when you crank the treble up. As a bonus, there’s a second footswitch which activates the Boost setting, adding up to 15db of boost for your pedal, which is adjustable via and internal trimpot. What’s even cooler, the Boost function comes after the drive section of the pedal, so it can be used to heighten any other pedal you have that come after the Sally Drive, making it an extremely useful and important pedal in your signal chain.
This pedal plays so clean and crystal clear, responding to every note and string you pluck beautifully. When you crank it up, it’s still so smooth, yet has that OD bite, and will drive your amp into breakup with ease. Thanks again to Ken and everyone at 6 Degrees FX for making this review happen – they are really making some beautiful and innovative pedals up there in Canada, make sure you check out their website and see for yourself!
