fulltone choralflange chorus flangerI’m a fan of chorus effects….there, I said it. Seems a lot of players are either on board with chorus or think it’s the worst thing to happen to guitar since C.C. DeVille (I love Poison, that was just the first name that popped into my head). If there was a magical pedal that somehow housed an incredible analog chorus, as well as a kick-ass flanger (another of my favorites), I just might have to buy it. So I did…here’s the Choralflange from Fulltone.

I love a good 2-in-1 pedal, but this might be the coolest yet, at least in the modulation department. Nice and analog-y, warm and soothing, not all high-pitched like a lot of the digital stuff was/is, and extremely versatile, for a big batch of uses and textures in practically any pedalboard setup. Mix sets it all up, dialing in just the right amount for what you’re going use this beast for. Delay Time controls the amount of vibrato present, up to 50mS, and adds it into the chorus for a full and rich tone. Depth will affect the wet signal, and controls how much saturation is present at any given setting, or moment. Rate sets the speed, so you can get anything from a sweet, slow burn all the way up to a lightning-fast Leslie-type sound. Awesome.

You can use the first toggle switch to select between Chorus or Flanger mode, and let me tell you, both are just great. Mike and the team at Fulltone put a lot of research and effort into this pedal, and it shows in the sound. A second toggle gives you the choice between a Narrow (one octave) frequency bandwidth setting, or Wide (two octaves), for even more control over your sound. Not to mention the small, possibly overlooked knob that sets the overall Volume output, so you can sync it up with the rest of your rig with no loss or quick jump in signal strength when the ChoralFlange is engaged.

If this all wasn’t enough, you can set it to perform either as Buffered or True Bypass, just by accessing some dip switches in the battery compartment. And if you’re feeling crazy, there’s a 2nd Output jack for you to run it in Stereo, opening up even more possibilities. The ChoralFlange has been discontinued by Fulltone as I write this, but if you can find one, don’t hesitate to pick it up (unless, of course, you’re one of those Chorus/Flanger haters).

Specs:
Delay Time knob allowing for subtle or wildly detuned chorus/Vibratos.
Mix knob for balancing between Effected and straight Guitar/Bass signals
Depth knob for effect Intensity and thickness.
Rate knob with LED indicator for a visual to match with song tempo…doubles as.
External trimmer for Gain, and mini-toggle switch for Range (1 or 2 Octave sweep) and Function (selects between Chorus or Flanger)
