My buddy Anthony from Marla Amplification gave me a huge bag of pedals to check out, and one of the many gems I discovered inside was the Dunn Effects Deceiver Distortion. Now, I can’t hardly find out squat about this pedal on the interwebs, so it must be really rare, or a one-off, or discontinued or something…either way, it looks slick and sounds amazing. Let’s jump in and see what this familiar-ish layout has to offer, shall we??
The Deceiver is a grinding, brutal, in-your-face distortion pedal that sounds awesome on both guitar and bass. Based on the classic white-faced RAT pedal specs we all love, the usual controls are Volume, Filter and Distortion. A 3-way toggle switch allows you to choose from silicon clipping, LED clipping, or no clipping. The circuit utilizes the famed LM308N op-amp chip, and the In/Out jacks are top-mounted, easily sliding right into any rig or sonic configuration.
Three knobs, one toggle, ALL POWER. I love the simplicity of this pedal, bringing the classic Rat topology to the table, then cranking it up a couple notches for good measure. If you can find one of these, GRAB IT – you’re not gonna be disappointed, I promise. Be sure to head below to our YouTube channel and check out the little demo we did – hope you dig this one as much as us, cheers!!
