I loved the original version of the Wombtone Phaser from Chase Bliss, and even though I haven’t owned that pedal in probably 6 years, I always hoped they’d re-release it in a new, updated form. Well, not only did that wish come true, but another one as well: the collaborated with one of my favorite players, Billy Strings, to create a unique and truly special effects unit. Wombtone is back with some new tricks. After Chase Bliss discovered that Billy had started collecting every Wombtone pedal he could find, before it was discontinued, they decided to work together to bring it back, and make it even better. It had become a part of his core sound back in 2014, and the Billy Strings Wombtone collects multiple styles of phasing in one place, using a rich, all-analog signal path. You can now control the phasing directly with your playing, for responsive and tightly-synced movement. If there’s a phase sound you’re dreaming of, it’s probably in this pedal.
The Billy Strings Wombtone follows the loudness of your playing and uses it to manually control the phase. Explore reactive ripples and wobbling waves, all tight-synced to the dynamics and nuance of your fingers. Or route the envelope to control any (or multiple) of the Wombtone’s knobs. It features advanced connectivity and customization options including Envelope control, MIDI, CV and Expression control, presets, and internal modulation of any or all its knobs.

I’ve seen Billy talk about his love for the Wombtone before in rig rundowns and whatnot, and I’m stoked for him now that he has this signature pedal, ensuring that part of his sound will remain constant for as long as he’s making beautiful music. Plus, the Wombtone itself is back, which makes me super excited, and it really sounds amazing. We scratch the surface just a bit in our 15+ minute demo video below, but there’s sooooo much this thing can do, you’ll have to grab one for yourself to discover it all.
