Analog Man Block Logo Envelope Filter

Although it’s a pretty rare treat, it’s always fun to have a piece of gear from Analog Man (or is it AnalogMan?) come through the shop, and we’ve got an incredible effects unit for you from them today. The Block Logo Envelope Filter provides you with the perfect amount of funk to get down and dirty, or send you off into Garcia-esque jams filled with estimated prophets, mountain fire and a street that’s sure to shakedown. Three knobs and one switch bring a classic, vintage sound right into the modern era with ease…

The Emph knob adjusts the peak of the frequency that the envelope filter puts out. Thresh acts an input level control that adjusts the filter’s response to your playing dynamics – for optimal settings, adjust this to match the output level of your instrument. Attack controls the rate at which the filter opens up and/or closes (based on which direction the toggle switch is set).

Speaking of that toggle switch, it controls the direction or sweep of the filter itself. In the UP position, the filter sweeps up as normal “wah”. This is the normal MXR setting. In the Down position, the filter works in reverse, allowing those Mu-Tron-type “laser beam” and “OW” sounds to come through. There’s also an internal trimpot that allows you to adjust the envelope to fit any guitar, bass and pickup configuration you can throw at it.

Mr. Jerry Garcia is one of my musical heroes, and the Block Logo Envelope Filter lets you get his sound almost instantly, along with a HUGE range of funk and filth to explore for an entire lifetime, if you so choose. This pedal, as with all Analog Man gear, is a gorgeous creation, featuring a new high-quality circuit board, new layout and better build than the previous version.
