Old, vintage, not really talked about effects pedals are usually some of the coolest, and today we’ve got one for you all that I had NEVER heard anyone talk about. A fellow drummer friend of mine had it laying around at his studio, and I took it home, plugged it in and was WOWED. This Morley MOD-DDB Deluxe Distortion looks like it has been through the ringer and back, and both the sound it produces and the beat-up aesthetic make this one killer distortion pedal…

The MOD-DDB Deluxe Distortion was a short-lived collaboration between Morley and Tel-Ray Electronics in the early 1980’s. It uses a TL074 opamp based circuit and runs on two 9 volt batteries or an optional AC adapter. The tone sweep is huge on this pedal which would lend itself to also being used as a bass distortion. This vintage, classic distortion pedal sounds great, featuring lots of saturation and bite without sacrificing any clarity or brilliance.
The simple Distortion, Tone and Output controls make it easy and quick to dial in a great distortion sound, depending on what setup you’re using. There’s not a ton of info out there about this pedal from Morley, so I hope this is a bit of a diamond-in-the-rough situation for a lot of you out there, and if you can find one, I highly recommend picking it up. Our full demo video is over on our YouTube channel as always, hope you dig this throwback distortion as much as I did!!
