MMK Electrics Red Cream Soda Overdrive Distortion

The Norris Fuzz was a surprisingly amazing 2-knob fuzz we saw from Alaskan-made MMK Electrics a few months back, and we’re excited to bring you another super-fun and tonally-powerful pedal from them today. The Red Cream Soda is a wide-ranging overdrive and distortion unit, with eye-catching graphics and bold, tone-shaping sound. Sometimes, three knobs is all you need to completely transform your rig, and that is most certainly the case today…

The Red Cream Soda, named for a drink you can get at a pizza place in a certain town, in a certain state, produces a fuller bodied tone, creamy, more volume, huge gain swing and a versatile treble cut. Imagine if a Centaur and a Tube Screamer had a baby: that would be the best way to describe the Red Cream Soda. The CMOS circuit features BAS33 didoes in an asymmetrical clipping arrangement, and the dry signal path is permanently fixed, so some clean signal is always present in the mix.

Shake sets the output, with unity volume at 12 o’clock. Don’t be afraid to turn this all the way up, then set gain desired with Fizz. Once gain is set, adjust volume if needed. Fizz delivers low, medium, high-gain, overdrive, distortion: you pick, this is your world, no mistakes here. There’s a huge gain swing from 10 o’clock to max, and at a lower setting, the signal will take the dry clean path of least resistance, where no gain will be heard. Treb controls your highs, and can really help shape your tone around any pickup and amp. A super versatile treble blend, this is.

The Red Cream Soda Overdrive Distortion is inviting, aesthetically, right off the bat, and becomes even more profound and enjoyable once you plug it in. A good tube amp will benefit greatly from this pedal, so don’t be afraid to crank it up and let ‘er rip! Be sure to head over to the MMK Electrics website for more info, too, and to pick one of these red beauties up for yourself. We’ve got a rad demo video below for you, as always, so be sure and check that out as well…until next time!
