Seafoam Pedals Low Tide Overdrive

Seafoam Pedals are a small company based out of Mobile, Alabama, making all hand-wired pedals with some interesting designs and layouts, mainly doing Tap Tempo and Expression-type pedals in pedalboard-friendly sizes. Their first foray into an actual effect pedal is the Low Tide Overdrive, a small, 2-knob transparent drive that features smooth sounds and just enough grit to make it interesting, while keeping your guitar’s tone in tact.

All Seafoam pedals are enclosed in seafoam green housing (hence the name, get it?), and really stand out on any pedalboard you place them on. Fortunately, they’re also extremely compact, allowing you to fit them anywhere you need to on your board, without losing valuable real estate. The Low Tide measure only 3.5″ x 1.5″, making it an ideal space-saving candidate. Don’t let the size fool you, though: this little guy can pack a punch. Remember, this is a transparent overdrive, which means you’re not going to get any heavy metal tones blaring out of your amp while using it, but what you do get is a nice, smooth, slightly driven boost, which is perfect for complimenting your existing tone.

The mini-knob controls are simple: Volume and Gain. With the Gain all the way down, you can adjust the Volume to get a great clean boost, which adds a bit of character and depth to your sound. As you twist the Gain knob clockwise, a subtle but detectable drive sound slowly creeps up, until you can’t figure out what just happened, but your guitar all of a sudden sounds fantastic! Even when cranked, the Low Tide retains your guitar and amp’s overall sonic characteristics, making it an extremely useful but not over-powering element to add into your signal chain.

If this is the first drive pedal from Seafoam Pedals, I can’t wait to see what they come up with next. Plus, they have a great line of micro control pedals to check out, too, that will help enhance the gear you’ve already got on your pedalboard. Thanks so much to Dave at Seafoam for sending this great drive over for me to check out – if you’re in the market for a small pedal that will enhance your sound without any coloration for a great price, look no further than the Low Tide Overdrive.
