Throughout 2022, we had a great time checking out the effects pedal lineup from our friends at Summer School Electronics, which ranged from overdrive to boost to delay to fuzz and more. Today’s pedal takes one of our favorites of theirs, the Gus-Drive Overdrive, and makes to more friendly to bass players and drop tuning guitarists alike. The Gus-Plus Bass Overdrive beefs up your low frequencies, while still maintaining punch and clarity…
The Gus-Plus Bass Overdrive provides all the presence and saturation of an overdriven tone, but without losing the lower frequencies and tonality of the notes. With the Blend knob turned all the way down, the Gus-Plus functions like a standard Gus-Drive overdrive pedal, allowing a volume boost to an array of overdriven tones. When the clean blend is added, the volume should be balanced between the Volume and Blend knobs to find the perfect sweet spot for your tone.
Hand-built in Syracuse, NY, the Gus-Plus expands on an already creative circuit, really pushing your low end playing to new heights of power and gusto. I picked up my trusty Spector NS2000B bass for the demo below, and was surprised at how versatile this three-knob effect really is. Everything stays tight and clear, while providing a gorgeous drive tone that doesn’t overpower or alter your tone considerably, which is just what you want from a good drive pedal. Be sure to check out the demo below, and go visit Summer School Electronics for more info and more pedals – cheers!!
