The Prince Of Tone (POT) is a tube screamer style overdrive “half” of Analogman’s King Of Tone pedal (The King has 2 of these pedals in one housing). The Prince has 3 knobs (Volume, Tone, Drive), an external 3-way toggle switch to switch gain modes (Boost, Overdrive, Distortion), and it has internal DIP switches (D1 = Lo-Mid lift to enhance the tone of the lower strings, and D2 = Turbo switch for more compression and brighter/crunchier on higher gain settings).
I love this pedal! It is rich and has a nice even tonality to it. My favorite, and what I use most of the time, is Boost mode with the gain around 11:00-noon. This gives a full sounding push to a tube amp, and when I stack the Prince with other pedals on my board (Wampler Euphoria or Mad Professor Sweet Honey OD), I get a big yet clear sound which reminds me of the Allman Brothers, or I can push it a bit harder in the front for a more Dumble vibe. In the Overdrive mode, it’s got a more even tone than a TS, in my opinion, and retains its clarity while remaining a very usable overdrive. My stacking in OD mode gets even more “Marshally”. Distortion mode almost sounds to me like a modded TS, still full and round, but more gain, except on my other modded TS pedals, once you got the gain above 2:00, there was really no difference. However, The Prince retains its full range. I really like this pedal for its great sound, but especially for its flexibility!
Eddie uses the Prince on the road with Radney Foster and on sessions.

Note: according to analogman this is based off of A blues breaker overdrive, not a tube screamer.

Not a Tube Screamer. The Prince of Tone is based off Marshall’s original Blues Breaker pedals from the 90s (not the current versions).

Im honestly not a fan of the prince of tone. Its has a decent boost but the overdrive is harsh, raspy, thin, tinny and with lots of bass roll off. The distortion is even worse and its supposed to be improved from the KOT. Obviously you wouldn’t buy this if you were looking for a real distortion pedal. The internal dip switches really do very little to help. The treble trim pot does help alot but would benefit from being an external knob. I honestly found the EWS Brute Drive to be far superior with range of gain and tones, although it is a grittier pedal, I can turn the gain all the way down and get better results than the POT. If I turn the gain all the up, its full blown distortion and it has a mid boost. Also the POT didnt stack well with any of my pedals. It made them all sound raspy and tinny. Some of my other overdrive pedals are the Brute Drive, Timmy, Chellee Odelya, Visual sound open road, PCE Aluminum Falcon. It actually did pair well with an MXR custom shop micro amp plus but all I was doin was adding bass. Maybe this is why the KOT is a dual pedal. I even had two other friends play the pedal and one(that doesnt play an instrument) listen, I didnt tell them what I thought until they told me and they actually all agreed with me, so I know im not totally crazy.
