Berch Audio The Golden Axe Boost Fuzz Overdrive

When a dirt pedal can do more than one thing, that’s never a bad option. Today’s pedal, Berch Audio‘s The Golden Axe, combines aspects of Fuzz, Overdrive and Boost into one medieval enclosure, sparking ancient imagery and conjuring up vintage tones with a quickness. The wide-ranging control panel ensures you’ll be able to get virtually any dirty sounds you want out of this beauty…

The Golden Axe features four knobs and one toggle – more than enough for what’s happening with this effect. VOL sets your output level, GN adjusts the distortion amount and TONE balances out your high and low end frequencies to taste. The BIAS knob is a fun addition, as it is a bias/starvation control, cutting or boosting the voltage to the transistors, creating experimental sound textures, and opening the door wide open for sonic experimentation. The Lo/Hi toggle switch also offers up 2 different options for vast output tonal range, just because Berch Audio can.

Loosely based on the classic OCD circuit, The Golden Axe Fuzz Overdrive Boost offers high gain op-amp boosting, a JFET clipping circuit and a passive output tone control. Ranging from a Boost to an Overdrive to a Distortion to a Fuzz, and anywhere/everywhere in between, this pedal is a true jack-of-all-effects-trades. Cheers to the Berch Audio crew on this beauty – be sure to check out their website for more info and more pedals.
