The Animals Pedal lineup (aka Ninevolt Pedals) has been one of our favorites for years – affordable, excellent quality and a wide range of effects. We love when they send us another new pedal to check out, and today’s gem is no different than usual. The Diamond Peak Hybrid Overdrive takes everything you know and love about high-output British amplifiers from the 60’s and 70’s and puts it into a box that will neatly fit onto any pedalboard with ease. Let’s dive right in!
Designed in conjunction with Skreddy Pedals, the Diamond Peak produces a “distorted but transparent” hybrid tone, for some real rock sounds. Based on the Animals Pedal Major Overdrive, the gain has been reduced a bit, while the headroom has been expanded. As the Gain control is increased, you won’t notice any muddy tones appearing, only punchy, cutting overdriven sounds. The Tone control is a powerful piece of the puzzle as well, suppressing the roughness and noise of the top end when you need it, while darkening things up as you set it lower and lower.
The clean separation of chords and a fine-grained attack on on display with the Diamond Peak Hybrid Overdrive, providing crisp cutting around every corner. Pickups, volume control and your playing attack all play a part here, which leads to hours and hours of sonic experimentation.
