Noisemaker Effects makes really nice pedals, and then sells them at a really nice price (I bought their 1/2-watt amplifier, too, and that thing rocks!). They’re built in sturdy, tough, metallic enclosures, sure to stand the test of time (and our foot abuse) and outlive us all. The Soda Pop Fuzz seems like another rad pedal from a cool company, so let’s check it out, uh?

The graphics first catch your eye and make you crack a little grin. The swirling red and white sort of harken back to your lost childhood, or maybe a trip you took to Japan, or maybe you’re just thirsty and want a Coca-Cola, who knows? The point is, it looks great on a pedalboard, and is sure to grab others’ attention visually. But, if that doesn’t work, it will grab them sonically, for sure. With only 2 knobs to control the sound, the Soda Pop is an easy, breezy pedal to tame, but the sounds that escape it might not be. The Level knob controls the amount of overall volume you want to put forth with this pedal, and the Gain controls how growly and fuzzy you want your signal to sound. Dialing these two in together can take as little as a few seconds, but it’s easy to get lost for a lot longer period of time twisting and turning the knobs to discover new dimensions of fuzz. From such a simple layout comes great tonal range, and you need to sit and really delve into this stompbox to figure out how it’s going to work best for you. And like I said before, the price is unbeatable ($85 NEW, I got mine from Reverb for $40, a steal for this pedal, in my opinion). The only trouble is trying to FIND one, as everywhere I saw them for sale new was Out of Stock.

The Soda Pop is a simple yet effective fuzz box, with lots of sounds and tonal range to work with. These guys are a small company in Missoula, Montana, making small pedals at small prices, but producing BIG sound and quality. If you haven’t checked out Noisemaker Effects yet, do yourself a favor and go to their shop on Reverb.com. They have a ton of pedals, something for everyone, and they’re so reasonably priced, you might just have to pick up two or three!
