We’ve always dug the simplicity and straightforwardness of the one-stomp pedals from Henretta Engineering, and are excited to bring you another one today. The Black Hole is an all-analog chorus effect pedal that will add shimmer, dimension, fullness and character to your sound. Chorus has been an extremely popular effect since its introduction to the guitar effect pedal market in the late 70’s. A wide range of sounds, from subtle comb-filtered type effects to intense rotating speaker sounds, can be dialed in and accessed with a stomp.
Housed in a tiny 2-5/8”x 3” enclosure, it’s sure to squeeze onto any pedal board, and the top-mounted jacks help keep things neat & tidy. The effect is completely removed (true bypass) from your signal chain when the pedal is off. You can adjust the sounds produced through a couple of Internal Controls:
SPEED – trimpot that controls the frequency of pitch modulation that creates the chorus effect. Get classic rotating speaker type sounds at fully clockwise, throbbing modulation at mid-sweep settings, and more subtle comb-filtering at fully counterclockwise.
DEPTH – trimpot that controls the intensity of pitch modulation for a more intense effect as you adjust clockwise.
VIBRATO SWITCH – tiny switch near the left side of the circuit board; flip this switch to OFF to remove the parallel dry signal, leaving only the pitch modulated signal, for a dizzying vibrato effect. Note that the pitch modulated signal is slightly quieter than unity gain, as it has been tweaked in favor of providing optimum chorus effects when the switch is ON.
BIAS – trimpot that is factory-set; no need to adjust that one.
With only these couple of controls, the Black Hole manages to produce a wide array of sounds, and conjures up some gorgeous modulation. As with most Henretta effects, this is pretty much a set-it-and-go pedal, unless you want to try adjusting trimpots on a dimly lit stage. That said, once you find the sweet spot here, you won’t need to change a thing, and it will fit onto even the snuggest of boards. Cheers once again to Kevin and the Henretta Engineering team – we love these pedals, and can’t wait to see what’s in store down the road….
