After making a big move across the world and being out of the game for a minute, we’re glad that Veri-Tone pedals are back on the scene, and we’ve got one of their new creations today. The Mr. Heath Overdrive Distortion Fuzz is an attempt to replicate the not-quite-fuzz not-quite-overdrive distortion sound present in Vox’s early solid-state amps, like the UL730, Defiant, Conqueror and Super Beatle.
The Mr. Heath stems from Vox’s creation of the unusual “overdrive” channels from the aforementioned amplifiers. Coming in somewhere between a low drive and a fuzz, the range of tones from just two knobs is quite impressive. You can get from “Drive My Car” rhythm tones to “Helter Skelter” chaos with a few turns of the Drive knob (on the left). Despite being a mid-gain overdrive, it has been voiced to place emphasis on mids and high mids, allowing your leads to stand out no matter how busy the mix.
Again, the Veri-Tone Mr. Heath Overdrive Distortion Fuzz is not an attempt to faithfully replicate the circuitry of those Vox amps, but simply create a replica (or more precisely, an approximation) of that most unusual but useful distortion. We love the sweep of the dirt from low settings to high, invoking classic, vintage tones and sounds from some of the most iconic riffs and chordal progressions in music history. We’re glad to have Veri-Tone back in the mix building pedals – be sure to visit their website and give them some support. Check out the demo we did of the Mr. Heath below as well, cheers!
