When we received a big shipment of pedals all the way from Australia from our friends at Mozztronics, we had no idea that each pedal would be on par with or better than its predecessor. Well, it’s happened once again with today’s pedal, the OR-1 ORANG-e, which emulates precisely the gain and tone found on the classic amplifier from a company named after both a fruit and a color. A real bump-n-grinder, this amp / preamp / overdrive/distortion has just about everything you need for dirt on your pedalboard (even though it’s not technically classified as a “dirt” pedal).
Starting off, the Treble and Bass controls on the OR-1 ORANG-e create the full 2-knob tone stack found on the original vintage OR120 amp. Gain controls the amount of gain from the first stage, while Volume adjusts the overall output volume of the pedal. F-Ck is a funny and awesome knob, as it provides different Frequency response via the internal interstage coupling capacitors. Basically, this thing just flat out crushes.
The classic rock sounds of the 70’s are alive and well, friends, thanks to this gorgeous OR-1 ORANG-e from Mozztronics. Keep the Gain low for a great amp sound, or crank it to real throttle some eardrums and melt some faces. We continue to be über-impressed with this lineup of effects from Mozztronics, and still have a couple more to review, so stay tuned.
