The sounds of AC/DC have echoed through concert halls, dorms, bedrooms, vans, strip clubs and just about any other place you could think of for close to 50 years now. Many have tried to capture their classic sound, and many have gotten close. Today’s re-creation attempt comes to us from our pals in France, in the form of the Anasounds High Voltage Plexi Distortion. This dirty, overdriven beauty conjures up tones reminiscent of the boys from down under, with a couple added twists and turns to make it an extremely usable effect.
The High Voltage was designed to emulate Malcolm Young and his tone. Based around the Marshall Plexi, it makes your chords stand out in any mix, producing nothing but good sound, dynamics and energy. Output, Tone and Gain give you three recognizable controls to deal with, but there’s much more here to investigate. The Bass switch gives you two outstanding options: Down, it keeps your low-end chugging and massive; Up, it kills the bass and lets you stand out in any mix. You can even open it up to adjust Voicing (modern or vintage-type flavors) and a Treble Cut, furthering your customization and dialing in of this pedal. Hell, you can even set how intense you want the LED to be!
A true powerhouse of a pedal, the Anasounds High Voltage Plexi Distortion is key to any AC/DC-inspired rig. That said, it sounds great with the Gain rolled back a bit, too, giving you a fat, warm overdrive. You can even turn down the Gain and pump up the Output for a sweet-sounding boost if need be (but let’s be honest, we all wanna rock with this one). Built beautifully as all Anasounds pedals are, this is one excellent piece that will fit into any rock ‘n roll setup with ease.
