Merry Christmas! Happy Hanukkah! Happy Kwanzaa! Happy Anything You Choose to Celebrate! Now then, we’ve been checking out some effects pedals from a company called Caline Technology over the course of this year, and are excited to bring one last one to the table before we say goodbye to 2019. Having already been a part of our Klone Wars series on YouTube, the CP-99 Medusa Overdrive brings a familiar look, feel and sound to the table. Don’t let the simple setup fool you – as with most of these types of drives, there’s a lot more to it than meets the eye.
Based on the ever-elusive, expensive and perhaps over-hyped Klon, the Medusa Overdrive is inspired by, but not a replica of, that famous mythical beast. Building on another of Caline’s products, the CP-43 Pegasus Overdrive, this golden beauty uses the Volume, Tone and Gain controls to exude warm, analog overdrive and boost tones with ease. With a bit higher gain on tap that the Pegasus, it lets you get into dirtier, distortion-ish territory as well. Don’t forget about the True Bypass circuitry as well.
The Caline lineup of effects are probably best-known for being in the extremely affordable category, but the builds and sounds let them compete legitimately with any builder out there right now. Really, where else can you get a fantastic klone of a $2,000 pedal for about $65? Nowhere, you’re right. The smaller size, durable and stable aluminum alloy shell and delicious tonal production make giving the CP-99 Medusa a try an absolute no-brainer. Cheers once more to Caline for another well done pedal – we’re looking forward to checking out more of their gear in 2020, and you should be as well. Be sure to check out the demo below, and everyone have a safe and wonderful holiday!
