There are a lot of Klone pedals out on the market, with each seeking to replicate the sounds of the mythical Klon pedal from the 90’s, and we love ’em all (check out our Klone Wars demo series as we search for the best of the best). We’re going to check out another one today, one that boasts “no major tweaks or adjustments from the original unit.” Hey, that caught our attention right there, and probably yours, too, right? The DCW Pedals Klone has a similar but varied look and feel to the Klon, so let’s dig in and see what we’re working with, m’kay?
As with the vintage units, the DCW Klone feature Gain, Treble and Output controls. The key elements here are the vintage NOS Russian military grade D9E germanium diodes, used strictly for their spot-on characteristics to the “unidentifiable” and “magical” ones used in the 90’s Klons. These made the best overall tonal match from a number of different diodes that were tested, and the results are absolutely fabulous. The boosts are clear and warm, the overdrive is bold but smooth and you’d be hard-pressed to find a bad setting anywhere.
Along with the incredible tones this DCW Klone produces, it’s also comprised of the highest quality components around, including Neutrik jacks, Alpha pots with dust seals, metal film resistors, FS3PDT-PRO footswitches and the aforementioned Russian germanium diodes. The pedals are hand-wired AND hand-painted, and feature the coveted Buffered Bypass that the original pedals have become known for as well. Plus, it costs less than $140! An all-around excellent job, cheers to the DCW Pedals crew for making another wonderful option for anyone seeking “that tone” without having to mortgage their house. Check out their website for an extensive list of pedals, along with this Klone, and be sure to check out our demo below to hear it in action!
