Moog. You’ve heard the name for decades now, and, if you’re lucky, have had the pleasure of testing out or even owning some of their gear. One of the most sought-after and incredible effects they made was the Moogerfooger MF-104M, an analog delay considered by many to be the finest ever created. This delay delivers tone upon tone, echo options for days and will bring inspiration to anyone who gets a chance to plug one in. We’ve had one for a number of years now, and today’s pedal is a much-needed MIDI controller for this awesome delay.
The VF-104 from Vongon takes everything you love about your MF-104M and ramps it up, giving you 3 banks of 3 instantly accessible and customizable presets, for 9 unique sounds at your finger (or foot) tips. Save three different effect-type settings, or three different delay types, and simply select from the three preset (and soft) footswitches to bring them up at a moment’s notice. As you may know with the MF-104M, you can create chorus, vibrato, pitch bend and even octave sounds, so the possibilities for your presets are just about endless.
Using the large center knob, in conjunction with the Next button, you move seamlessly through the parameters found on the MF-104M, setting each one to your specs, then saving them all together as one concise preset. The three presets over three banks give you a total of NINE presets to play and experiment with, and with a user-friendly layout and functionality, you’ll have this thing figured out in no time flat. You can even set it up to act as an expression pedal, by changing the values slightly on three presets, and go back and forth between the Short and Long delay modes in a snap.
To get a true idea of how this marvelous creation can take your MF-104M to the next dimension, you’ll need to watch our demo video in full (and don’t forget to hit that Subscribe button while you’re there, too). The MF-104M has been out of production for years, and if you’re lucky enough to find one up for sale, they can be quite spendy. However, if you have a lot of cash and want a killer analog delay, or were one of the few to snatch one of these up before they were discontinued, the VF-104 is truly an essential piece of the puzzle to unleash all of the potential that this machine holds inside. Cheers to the Vongon crew for making one of our all-time favorite delays even better, and for figuring out how to utilize modern technology with a vintage-sounding effect. Be sure to check out their website for more details, and to grab your own MIDI controller as soon as you can!
