Now fully established as a fuzz and distortion-producing powerhouse of a company, we are always happy to get new effects in the office from our friends at Wren & Cuff, and we’ve got another mammoth for you today. The Super Russian is a potent fuzz pedal, plus a buffer/boost as well, a well-rounded machine that works wonderfully with bass and guitar alike. Featuring loud, boisterous, Muff-y tones and distortion, plus a couple of extra nuggets of goodness for good measure, this green monster will slam, crush, eat and destroy everything that gets in its way.
Volume, Tone and Distortion create the basis for the Super Russian’s tonal achievements, but there’s much more to this dark green monster. In addition to adding more heat and output to the initial circuit, you have the option to either flatten out the mid-response or scoop the mids EQ, via a selectable toggle switch. Take the entire pedal up one more notch using the Creamy option on a 2nd toggle, which activates the fabled “Creamy Dreamer” mod to send things into a rich hyper-drive on command.
On the other side, you’ve got the footswitchable Buffer Boost portion of the Super Russian. A tasty, rich germanium boost, this side gives you more punch via a transparent, crystal clear tone enhancer. Coming first in the signal chain, it’s a perfect always-on option, driving a lower-output clean tone, or beefing up another pedal that comes in further down your sonic pathway.
Based on Wren and Cuff’s popular Tall Font Russian fuzz, the Super Russian makes an awesome pedal even better, tacking on some additional options to create a focused, well-rounded pedal that can be utilized in a plethora of musical situations. Since we usually do guitar demos, it was kinda fun when Wren and Cuff asked us to do a bass demo, as this thing sounds sooooo good on bass, and we tried to showcase that in the video below.
