Greyscale Devices Vintage Wah - Pedal of the Day

Greyscale Devices Vintage Wah

Greyscale Devices have taken the concept of a vintage wah and, using some modern parts and techniques, created the perfect blend of past and present in the wah world. My Vintage Wah is housed in an old CryBaby housing, which I think makes it look super badass. It also sounds pretty rad as well, but that’s another story.

Based on the classic VOX v846 wah pedals of the ’60s and ’70s, this Greyscale wah produces sounds which aim to recreate those wah tones of the past. What you get is all the tonal genius of those old wahs, coupled with updated modern electronics to ensure a quality, long-lasting pedal, with little or no maintenance required (at least not for a long time). The sounds emanating from this pedal are beautiful, and you’ll instantly feel like you’ve been transported directly into ‘Shaft‘ or ‘Superfly‘ – funk tones coming out of the woodwork. You can even send them your wah and they’ll mod it for you, or like mine, they put all new guts into an old housing, for an even more vintage feel.

This wah doesn’t try to do anything too fancy, or throw in a bunch of hip bells and wah whistles – it produces an incredible wah sound, the one which most of us are forever searching to discover. I wish the sweep was just a big bigger, but that’s just a personal preference, and a small thing in the grand scheme of these great wahs. Greyscale Devices make a whole slew of other effects as well – make sure you go check them out and see what else they have to offer!
