The Sparkle Drive from Voodoo Lab is a very unique and pretty awesome overdrive pedal. What makes this pedal stand out is the ability to blend in the clean tone of your guitar into the drive sound, making for endless tone possibilities.
The Sparkle Drive has four knobs: Gain, Tone, Clean, and Volume. The gain controls the amount of gain you want in your overdrive sound. By itself this pedal is a Tubescreamer style drive that goes from light to medium gain.
The tone, well, it controls the tone (the amount of treble and presence in the tone). The Volume knob, well, it controls the volume – it makes you louder or quieter.
The clean knob works as a blend knob. This is where all the magic happens. All the way to the left and all you get is that tubescreaming drive pumping out. Crank the knob all the way to the right and you get a rich, full, and sparkling clean boost (an glorious tone I must add). In the middle you get this beautiful blend of grit and shimmering clean boost.
My favorite setting on the Sparkle Drive is a light gritty clean boost. I use it as my base clean tone. I keep the Gain pretty low, about 8-9 o’clock, the Tone pretty bright, about 3 o’clock, the Clean is set about 11-12 o’clock, and the Volume about 11 o’clock. This gives a full and shimmering clean tone with just a hint of break up poking through.
This pedal is definitely worth checking out. There are even a few mods you can look into that open up the possibilities of this pedal even further.
