Ah, the Klon….such a mysterious, magical and ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUSLY EXPENSIVE piece of gear. Now, we love a delicious overdrive, and have even grown to love boost pedals over the last few years, but really, enough is enough. Since we have no money (or desire) to spend over $1500 on one singular item, especially when it’s an EFFECTS PEDAL, we’re glad there are companies like Rock Your Repaired Amp, or RYRA, as they’re known, to deliver the tones without the price tag. We’re going to check out their Klone today, one of the finest recreations of the elusive mythical beast that we (and many others) have come across…
As with all other Klones, this one features the same control setup as the original. Gain, Treble and Output basically speak for themselves, as does the pedal once you plug it in. Now, just for reference, we have never had the fortune to play through a REAL Klon, so we don’t have the “expertise” that others who are either extremely wealthy or who got in on the scene early enough have, but we still know a good pedal when we hear it, and this thing is a beast. The RYRA Klone is an exact, part for part, meticulously crafted replica of the infamous “transparent” overdrive pedal, painstakingly crafted using the absolute best components with a deep devotion to perfection. Basically, it’s just not f’in around.
In addition to a killer-sounding stompbox, RYRA gives you multiple options to create your own special pedal. Choose from four different enclosure colors (Black Cherry, Sea Foam Green, Silver or Gold) and a couple different knob colors (Black, White or Oxblood), as well as custom etching per request if you’re so inclined. The Buffered Bypass stays true to the original, and is a perfect choice for keeping your tone running crystal clear no matter how many pedals you’ve got in your configuration. Our demo video below will tell you all you need to know about this machine, be sure to check it out.
Here’s the rub: Klons are pretty sweet (apparently), but do you really need to spend that much cash on one pedal? No. The answer is no. If you have the means, go nuts, why not? However, if you’re like the rest of us, and an original pedal costs you more than your monthly mortgage, go with a really fantastic replica, with more options and the same incredible tone, for way, way, WAY less. Well, done RYRA, well done – be sure to head over to their website to see what else they do (their guitars look wicked awesome!), and be sure to grab a Klone for yourself as well!
