It’s always fun to check out pedals that have a little bit of hype around them, and I’ve seeing today’s effect pop up in discussions for a while now. The Aspen Overdrive from Case Study Effects definitely lives up to the hype, combining four kinds of dirt into one gleaming white enclosure. Don’t let the outside of this one fool you – there’s more dirt going on under the hood than you can imagine…

From crunchy boost to face melting fuzz, this pedal does it all. Paying homage to a classic, the Case Study Aspen Drive is a one-stop shop for all things drive. The Aspen reimagines the original Expandora / Kilt design by dramatically improving the post drive volume, and the Bass knob lets you set the amount of low end that passes through the pedal.

The coolest part of the Aspen Overdrive has got to be the toggle switches. By changing and reconfiguring them, you get access to 4 different modes of dirt: Crunch, Overdrive, Distortion and Fuzz. The Tone, Bass and Gain controls act intuitively with these switches, producing just about any drive sound you can think of. Trapping all of these sounds into one eclosure takes some research and preparation, and it has most definitely paid off in this case.

Based in Lake Country, in my home state of Wisconsin, Case Study Effects are crafted by musicians who like to play just as much as they like to build pedals.
