There isn’t a lot of information out there about today’s pedal, as it hasn’t been manufactured for like 40 years, but it’s still a blast nonetheless. The Univox MR-8 Micro Rhythmer Beat Box Drum Machine crams a bunch of different drum beats into a pedal-sized enclosure, perfect for practicing, accompaniment or adding new flavor into whatever type of music you want to create. Let’s dive right in and show you what this ancient and vintage gem is all about…
The MR-8 Micro Rhythmer is a drum machine in pedal form that features eight different rhythms built-in, and a Tempo knob to adjust the speed of each one. Made in Japan in the late 70s / early 80s, this black box has a lone Output jack, to run to an amp or interface. Even though that means you can’t run it in a regular guitar or bass signal chain, it’s still a valuable and fun piece of gear to sit down and explore.
Inside, there’s a trimmer to set the claves sound’s length (up to self-oscillation), a trimmer for sound balance (more or less snare and highs) and a trimmer for tuning tempo. The Univox MR-8 Micro Rhythmer Beat Box Drum Machine is apparently pretty rare, but can be found on the used market for reasonable prices. We had a lot of fun playing with the different patterns at different rates, as you’ll see and hear in our demo video below. Hope you all dig this one, hope you had a great weekend!!
