With some pedals, you can just tell they’re going to be fun to play just by looking at them. Then, you plug it in, turn it on and BAM! you find out you were 100% correct. Today’s pedal, the Spürr Audio MD-800 Modulated Digital Delay, accomplishes all of this with ease, providing a futuristic style with classic analog delay tonality, along with a couple of sliders and light-up meters to make it an instant conversation starter. Come along as we explore new sonic worlds with this modulated echo machine…
The MD-800 combines the digital precision of delay with an LFO system inspired by low-frequency oscillators found in popular ‘80s chorus units such as the CE-2 and Small Clone. This unique feature allows spontaneous wave inputs within the delay repeat stage, creating a subtle “wear and tear” effect that enhances the sound’s texture and warmth. The delay ranges from rich, chorus-like tones at shorter delay times to atmospheric, ambient trails at longer delay settings.
For added versatility, users can disable modulation by setting the Depth and Rate controls to zero. Unlike optical circuits, the modulation is directly fed to the echo processor, ensuring seamless integration. The MD-800 Modulated Digital Delay’s design is a tribute to the ‘80s, as its exterior evokes memories of VHS players and vintage lo-fi equipment. Be sure to head over to the Spürr Audio website for more info and to order one of these beauties for yourself, and don’t forget to check out our demo below and on YT – cheers!!
