Over the years, we’ve had a couple of wild reverb machines come through the shop, ones with crazy settings and separate reverb spring tanks and more. Today’s pedal, the Bulinski Effect Pedals ASD-1 Analog Spring Reverb Driver, encompasses a bunch of these reverberated options, with a wide range of drippy, oozing reverb that slinks and squirms through your eardrums with ease. Get your surf rock guitar chops ready, we’re going on a little auditory safari…
The ASD-1 will drive any spring reverb tank you connect to it, bringing real spring reverb to your pedalboard. Simply insert this pedal into your effect chain and connect a spring reverb tank to the RCA jacks on the side of this pedal, and the internal circuitry of the ASD-1 drives the springs of your reverb tank for an authentic spring reverb effect. While there definitely is some tonal overlap with some of the classic reverb units, the ASD series is not another Fender circuit clone.
The Spring Drive knob lets you control how hard the springs are driven. You can select anything from a very light effect all the way up to an overdriven spring effect. The Wet Tone parameter changes the EQ of the signal going into the springs, and if you turn the wet signal all the way down, or remove the spring tank, the ASD pedal will func on as a clean boost effect. Separate controls for Wet and Dry signal also allow you to blend the sound to your exacting secifications.
In addition to being able to produce classic reverb tones, the controls on the ASD-1 Analog Spring Driver Reverb allow you to push the parameters well beyond what the classic units offer, exploring new sounds and experimenting with how you approach your writing. Fun Fact: owner Steve Bulinski and I went to college together back in Milwaukee in the mid-late 90’s, so it’s been great to reconnect and find out that he’s making some killer guitar gear down in Florida these days. Be sure to visit the Bulinski Effect Pedals website for more info on the ASD-1 and their other creations, and don’t forget to check out our full demo video below and on our YouTube channel – cheers!!
