Many moons ago, we had the opportunity to check out a revolutionary Boost/Overdrive pedal from Massive Unity Ltd. called the Dirty Boy T.A.E. Preamp. Today, Dirty Boy is its own company, owned by our pal Danny Gomez, and we’re going to take a look at their latest, simply called the Preamp. With not as many bells and whistles as its predecessor, this one has a simple control section, a few output options and a ton of gorgeous breakup tone…

The Dirty Boy Preamp is based on a classic amplifier designed by Alex Saraceno and used by the legendary Blues Saraceno. Powered by T.A.E. technology (proprietary tube amplifier emulation developed by Danny Gomez, engineer, musical director and session guitarist), it can be used as a fully analog amplifier simulator for LINE connection, a highly detailed preamp to your amp´s FX LOOP, or even an impressive tube-sounding booster/overdrive to your amp´s INPUT. The Speaker Emulated Output provides a closed-back cabinet with a 4×12 “Greenback” speaker cab sound.

Dirty Boy’s T.A.E. technology revolutionizes guitar recording and live shows in an ultra-compact design with amazing results. Developed by Danny Gomez and Pablo Díaz de Rada, Dirty Boy products are available to guitarists and bassists needing both a professional alternative to their amplifiers, and/or a responsive backup to their regular rig on an ultra-lightweight package with a real analog experience. This is the first pedal we’ve seen from the new Dirty Boy lineup, and I sure hope it isn’t the last. The Preamp produces unique, bold, biting and powerful tones, with a wide range to explore and that Variac control to keep things uber-intriguing. Danny Gomez has jumped right into this project with both feet, and you can see and hear his dedication in every note you play with this effects unit.
