Hagerman Amplification TUBEKLØN Mythical Beast Tube Overdrive Kit

We recently had the pleasure of building our very own Klon clone, courtesy of JHS Pedals and their NOTAKLÖN DIY Overdrive Boost. Today, we’re doing it again, this time via the Hagerman Amplification TUBEKLØN Mythical Beast Tube Overdrive Kit. Here, you can once again build your own pedal with pre-fabricated parts, but this one has a REAL tube inside, for some of the warmest Klon-type tones we’ve ever heard…

TUBEKLØN is the world’s first tube-based mythical beast overdrive pedal interpretation. After deconstructing the classic design, the minimum gain flat bandwidth feature was removed, instead offering up that sweet midrange boost as the new minimum gain tone. Based on Hagerman’s NEOKLØN architecture, the diode/opamp clipping stage was replaced by a triode, as was the summing stage, which now drives a passive tilt style tone control.

The entire circuit is recreated using five transistors, two triodes, and zero opamps. Tonality is same as the original, except at high gain, where you get real tube breakup and sag, instead of opamp clipping. This kit contains a fully assembled and tested circuit board, tube, and enclosure; you only need to perform final assembly, placing items into enclosure and buttoning up. Keep in mind tube takes about 30 seconds to warm up after power is applied. And no, it does not fit the JHS NOTAKLÖN enclosure.

There are fewer pieces to actually assemble here, compared to the NOTAKLÖN, but both were super fun to build. The tones coming out of this one, I assume via the tube, are warm, inviting and will push your amp right to where you need it to be. Hagerman Amplification has a nice lineup of tube-based effects (check them out HERE), and if you want to skip the build step, you can even get a pre-assembled TUBEKLØN for just a little bit more money. Thanks so much to the Hagerman crew for sending this kit over to me, it was a blast and it sounds really, really great – check it out in our demo below, cheers!!
