We’ve been reviewing and demoing effects units from NUX for over six years now, and they just keep getting better and better. Today, we’re continuing our exploration into their Core Series of pedals (the Tape Core Deluxe was amazing, BTW) as we check out the Verb Core Deluxe, a vast-reaching, wide-ranging ambient powerhouse that brings your favorite reverb sounds up from the depths…let’s dive right in, shall we?
The NUX Verb Core Deluxe is a reverb pedal with 8 different types – you can select the reverb mode by using the Type knob, selecting from these options:
- Room reverb simulates a smaller acoustic space, and is akin to the normal ambience we’re used to hearing in the real world.
- Hall reverb is based on the legendary Lexicon 224 which was unleashed in 1978, and is a large encompassing reverb with warm, organic decay.
- Plate reverb was inspired by EMT 140, a renowned studio reverb found on classic recordings.
- Damp reverb is huge and endless, warm and natural.
- Shim (shimmer) reverb pitch shifts the reverb up an octave through each feedback loop, creating a haunting and other-worldly sound.
- Spring reverb simulates the drippy and squishy sounding spring tank that was generated in a spring by creating a mechanical oscillation.
- Tre-Verb (Tremolo Verb) combines tremolo and spring reverb, like a vintage tube amplifier.
- Mod-Verb (Modulation Verb) combines gorgeous chorus with damp reverb, this huge reverb delivers a lush, ambience-soaked sound.
The Tweak knob gives you control over different sounds, depending on what Reverb mode you’re currently in, from Tone to Shimmer to Modulation and more. The Stereo connectivity opens things waaaaay up as well, letting you create HUGE sounds while playing just one of two notes, or massive sonic washes when strumming big, fat chords. A toggle switch lets you select your Bypass option, and if you hold down the footswitch, you will trigger the Freeze function, opening up even more possibilities.
If you’re gonna make a stereo reverb effect, might as well go big, right? That’s exactly what the folks at NUX have achieved with the gorgeous Verb Core Deluxe Reverb, and as you’ll hear in our demo below, this one is capable of more tones than you can imagine. Thanks to NUX as always for sending this one over for us to review – we’ve got some more from them coming soon, so stay tuned…but, in the meantime, click below to check out our demo video, and don’t forget to subscribe to our YT channel while you’re there, thanks!!
