Last month, we had a look at the Konstante Overdrive from Twilight Pulse Audioworks, and we’ve got their next creation for you all today. The Proxima Overdrive Fuzz has simpler controls than its sibling, but features a wide range of dirt tones to explore. Ranging from slightly dirty to a scorching, amp-pushing heater, this seemingly simplistic effect has some surprises in store…
The Proxima Overdrive Fuzz is a Mosfet Overdrive / Fuzz. The gain range takes you from raw, fat, low-gain breakup to rugged, full-range fuzz. While the concept of overdrive and fuzz in one pedal is not uncommon, the Proxima has something that makes it stands out from the rest. Your search for a unique and raw sound is now in proximity.
The circuit is built to make the most of an obsolete Mosfet Opamp that provides a particular fizz to its decay. Coupled with some hand-selected NOS RFT silicon diodes from the German Democratic Republic (GDR/DDR) era, this thing rips like no other. The result is a double-edged drive pedal that gives you the right amount of breakup, fizz and saturation.
The Proxima Overdrive Fuzz is fully hand built with high-quality through hole components, clips with a pair of NOS RFT Silicon Diodes, and operates using an obsolete NOS Harris/Intersil CA3260E BiMos Opamp. I’ve really been impressed with these first two pedals from Twilight Pulse Audioworks, and if they’re any indication, the future for this company looks loud and bright. Be sure to hit up their website for ordering and more info on both of these pedals, and don’t sleep on our demo video below to hear this one in action!!
