Supercool Pedals The Thneed Overdrive

After the instantly recognizable Fuzz Blender ’77 we reviewed from Supercool Pedals a few months ago, we were excited to see what their next effects unit might be. Well, the day has arrived: presenting The Thneed Overdrive, a low-mid gain drive with nods to a certain super-expensive horsie-esque pedal AND one of the greatest authors of all time. And remember: “A Thneed’s a Fine-Something-That-All-People-Need.”

The Thneed is a highly dynamic and customizable drive pedal with a signature smooth and bright tone that cuts through the mix. Despite its appearance, The Thneed is a no-nonsense take on the legendary transparent overdrive pedal (that shares its name with a mythical creature) but does away with frivolities like a troublesome charge pump and multiple op amp stages, and instead opts for a more reliable design that provides the same signature sound and tone of its influence. The Thneed also adds benefits and options like four pairs of selectable clipping diodes (LED, 1N34A, BAT46 and 1N4148) for a wide range of drive sounds, a face-forward bass toggle (Unless) and internally selectable gain modes. It also features True or Buffered Bypass options, to provide sound options and alternatives that can satisfy even the most finicky of guitar chain connoisseurs.

A great drive pedal with unique graphics and amazing sound will always become a conversation starter, and that is most certainly the case with The Thneed Overdrive.
