aNaLoG.MaN Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer (SILVER MOD)

Love it or hate it, the Ibanez Tube Screamer, in all its iterations, is a staple in the world of guitar overdrive effects. With its characteristic mid-range boost and bright green enclosure, it works with rock, blues, metal and more, becoming part of many famous guitarists’ signature sounds. Its stock version, however, can leave some wanting more, and that’s where today’s pedal comes in – the TS9 Tube Screamer (Silver Mod) from Analog Man.

Analog Mike Piera from Analog Man has taken the TS9 and transformed it in many ways, cumulating with this Silver Mod version. Changing the circuit to the more-revered TS808 configuration, the Silver Mod takes everything a step further, for the best TS out there. Backing off the mid-range a bit, and adding in some much-welcomed bottom end, it is now more of a transparent effect, a clear and true sound that won’t over-color your one.

Changing several capacitors in the signal path AND in the power supply, the overdrive comes through without mushing out, while soft, clean notes will still come out smoothly with no alterations. There is less compression to the sound, more note articulation. The entire sound is fuller and richer, with an emphasis on picking attack. For a clearer, purer sound you can try running the TS9/808 pedal at higher voltage, up to 16 Volts is safe. It may not be as warm sounding but some people prefer the higher voltage, which gives you a little more output and headroom as well.

Used by the likes of Stevie Ray Vaughn, The Edge, Kirk Hammett, John Mayer, Joe Bonamassa and more, the Tube Screamer, in all its versions, is a well-known and well-loved pedal to many players throughout the world. In fact, one of our favorite guitarists, Trey Anastasio of Phish, even uses aNaLoG.MaN-modded gear, preferring them over any other mods out there. Taking a classic pedal and making it better isn’t always an easy task, but Analog Mike knows what’s what, knocking this one out of the park for many years now. There is LOTS more info on the aNaLoG.MaN website on this Silver Mod, and Tube Screamers in general so be sure to head over and check that out…after you watch our demo video below, of course!
