TC Electronic Magus Pro Distortion

After the seemingly endless sonic possibilities we explored in the PLETHORA X3 from TC Electronic last month, it was nice to have a simple, stripped-down pedal to check out next in their lineup. The Magus Pro Distortion is a classic, high-gain distortion pedal with fat mids, a treble filter control and 3 different clipping modes, for any musical scenario. Powerful, amp-driving glory is right at your fingertips…

The Magus Pro’s circuit has been specially designed to recreate the slow slew of the infamous LM308 op-amp, using readily available modern components. By keeping the slew rate slow, harsh unwanted harmonic overtones and interference are eliminated, leaving you with a smooth layer of pure distortion whilst cranking the gain. Another distinctive feature here is the Treble Filter control. It’s an extremely effective Hi-cut filter, allowing you to totally tailor your top end bite.

This distortion also comes packed with three different modes, giving you more scope than ever before. CLASSIC MODE takes us to a world of old scool, high gain, punchy mids and a gripping tight bottom end. TURBO MODE meanwhile engages LED clipping diodes for greater headroom, less saturation and higher output level. Finally, FAT MODE gives the low end a boost while re-shaping the upper mids for that ultimate hard rock tone.

The Magus Pro Distortion utilizes evenly balanced harmonic resonance to produce effortless and lasting sustain to take you way over the horizon, while providing musical feedback when required at high gain settings. Plus, true bypass switching ensures you keep a totally pure signal and retain the integrity of your instrument’s tone when the pedal is not in use. We’ve got a lot more effects to look at from TC Electronic over the coming weeks, so stay tuned, and be sure to visit their website to peruse their wide array of pedals. You’re gonna want hear the Magus Pro Distortion in action, too, so don’t forget to visit us on YouTube and subscribe!!
