From the Archer Ikon to the El Hombre to the Mr. Moto and beyond, the folks at J. Rockett Audio Designs keep finding ways to pack a whole lot of effect into a small enclosure. This wonderful trend continues today with the .45 Caliber Overdrive, a dirt pedal derived from the classic rhythm playing of Malcolm Young and the face-melting goodness of Pete Townshend. If you’re on the hunt for your next amp-in-a-box pedal, this might be just what you’re after…
Over a year in the making, the .45 Caliber Overdrive is a recreation of the original 1962 Marshall JTM 45 sound. Plug it in, crank it up, and you’re instantly whisked away to classic rock eras from decades ago. The self-explanatory controls (Loud, Gain, Treble and Bass) let you adjust your overdriven tone to mesh perfectly with any amplifier you can think of, nailing not only this vintage sound, but also the feel of this particular piece of historical gear.
The .45 Caliber also takes advantage of J. Rockett’s “Speed Switch” system, which allows you to easily swap out the footswitch for a brand new one in seconds, should anything ever go wrong. The sturdy shell and excellent build ensure that this pedal will be in your rig for years and years to come as well. The .45 Caliber Overdrive delivers a wide, compelling range of Bluesbreaker tones, from a bluesy clean to a wide-open throaty roar, along with a sick mid-forward crunch. Cheers to all at J. Rockett Audio Designs on yet another glorious overdrive endeavor – how you guys pack so much good stuff into these little pedals, we’ll never know. Be sure to visit their website for more info, and check out our demo video below as always, too. Cheers!
