Wampler Pedals Gearbox Andy Wood Signature Overdrive

We recently had the opportunity to check out an amazing double drive pedal, the Pantheon Dual Overdrive Deluxe from Wampler Pedals, and today we’re back with a similar effect. The Gearbox Any Wood Signature Overdrive gives you two separate channels of dirt, each based on a classic circuit, to push you amp and your sound where it needs to go. Lots of knobs and switches here, let’s get right to it, shall we?

The Gearbox is the signature pedal from Andy Wood, an influential guitarist whose touring acts range from Rascal Flatts to Locash to Gary Allen to Sebastian Bach and more. Channel 1 of this overdrive is based on the legendary Wampler Tumnus, and is a perfect addition to any board setup and any playing style. Its versatility allows you to stack it with another pedal to help push or shape the total amount of gain, use it as a stand-alone overdrive, or as a slightly dirty boost to push the front end of your amp over the edge.

Channel 2 is based on the Pinnacle, one of Brian Wampler’s most popular distortion pedals, and delivers that legendary “Brown Sound”. The three band EQ lets you dial in your soaring lead tone while the unique noise gate keeps the clarity on point. Stack both channels together for tonal bliss – warm, yet brutal grunt; delicate and controllable harmonic overtones; beautifully defined distortion that cuts through the mix.

The Order switch lets you select which pedal comes first in the signal chain. For ultimate control, connect both sets of inputs and outputs to an external switcher to mix or match in parallel or series. Andy named this pedal the Gearbox, as it was designed to be the driving force behind your sound, and we can’t think of a more perfect moniker for it. He also tweaked the controls, so with everything set at around noon this will sound fantastic out of the box, with a minimum amount of setup.
